I first want to introduce my self. My name is Karen Doryoseph and this week I started to work at the municipality with
olim from English speaking countries.
I apologize that my first e-mail is not a fun one, but I wanted to make sure that you are all aware of the resources and
some of the preparation you might want to make due to the situation in the south.
Most reports and analysts don't think a northern front will open, but it is better to be prepared.
First - In response to the situation, the Ministry of Absorption is operating a special hot line for Olim in several languages.
The number is 1255081010
Second - Make sure your shelter and/or your safe room is ready. Supply it with water, snacks, a radio (operating on
batteries) additional batteries, emergency lighting/flash light and toys and books if you have kids.
Third - you can log on to the home front commend web site that has the most updated info. Go to http://www.oref.org.il/
and click on the English link.
Fourth - During emergency channel 33 on TV has constant updates on the situation.

Preparedness of the family in times of emergency
A state of emergency is characterized by uncertainty and by changes and
disruptions in the routine of life. Emotional reactions and attitudes of people in
emergency situations vary in their intensity from person to person, but are
essentially similar.
What can we do now?
What we can do today to be ready and will make it easier for a possible
emergency situation
The principle is simple: the better we will know emergencies and especially the
means of defense, the better we will follow the instructions and have confidence
that we and our loved ones can cope with the situation. It is important that today
we think about the difficulties and problems that may arise in emergency
situations, to try to find solutions in advance. Preparing in advance will allow us
to consider a state of emergency as familiar and as not creating surprise. In
addition, when we encounter a problem, we know it has a solution and will not
be subjected to unnecessary stress.
It is therefore important that each family prepares a contingency plan that takes
into account its unique characteristics, and prepares for various emergencies.
Emergency plan for the family
- Know the emergency and understand the potential risks they entail
- Talk with family members about these situations and the risks
- Understanding the successive tasks to be performed during these emergencies
and teach all members of the family how to act
- Recognize the safest places in the house (for instance the mamad) and teach
family members how to protect themselves.
- Plan and define clearly the division of roles in the family. It is important to
match the capabilities and roles of each family member
- It is important that the family knows where all equipment is stored in case of
emergency. Determine who is responsible for organizing the equipment and
keeping it in good condition.
- Teach your child where are the points of gas and electricity in your house, in
what circumstances and how to close the taps
- Note the phone numbers of emergency relief agencies, local authorities and
relevant agencies in your area. It is important to teach your children whom they
should call.
- Note the phone numbers in a clearly visible place the means of communication
between all members of the family.
- Choose a neighbor and / or other persons to contact if you are unable to make
contact with your close family
- Determine the safest route for escape, should it be necessary to evacuate the
house immediately
- Choose a meeting place for members of the family if the family members are
not together when the emergency occurred. Establish a meeting point near the
house, and a second meeting point outside the district. Cooperation and mutual
assistance among neighbors is very important. It is important to talk with
neighbors in advance of these situations and identify ways of action.
- Finally, practice the emergency plan for the family! From time to time you
should refresh the memory of all family members on the details of the program

Prepare an emergency kit that can take 24 to 72 hours, until the arrival of aid.
- Transistor, flashlight powered by batteries (including spare batteries)
- Store water and canned food for 3 days (the water should be replaced every
three months)
- First aid kit with antibiotic ointment, pain relievers, antiseptic solution,
bandages, tourniquet, drugs that are used regularly, spare eyeglasses, copies of
medical records, etc..

- matches, candles, a multipurpose knife and personal care products

( against chemical and biological attacks) will be distributed to all citizens by the IDF Home Front Command.
Distribution stations will open soon in Haifa and the surrounding area
It is also possible to receive the equipement at home through the Israel Postal service. This service costs 25 NIS.
Call 171, press 2 (for Home Frone Command) then 2 for answer in English to fix a convenient time for the delivery
